It seems like I just posted on here about Valentine’s Day and here it is again! I can’t believe how fast my life is whipping by.

Even if I weren’t alone for Valentine’s Day, I still have objections of sorts to the necessity of a holiday to tell the people in our lives we love them. That should be an every day thing to begin with. Making an extra effort on V-Day is good, but it shouldn’t be the only day we express our affection for the people in our lives.

I also don’t think people should feel obligated to show their love. I see plenty of people giving their significant others gifts, flowers or cards only because they feel like they should. No one wants a gift given out of obligation — it should be from the heart.

That said, I’ll probably do what I did last year and write each of my kids a letter detailing the reasons I love them. The sort of thing you give them and then save for years, for when they’ll actually appreciate it.

Because I do enjoy taking the time once a year to think about the specific ways they bring joy to my life.

What will you do or give your kids for Valentine’s Day?

I always give my kids a box of candy. My dad still brings me Valentine gifts which is very special to me.

I don’t give them presents for Valentine’s Day. Not that I don’t think of it, I just am usually BROKE by this time of the winter! And my son’s birthday is Feb 15, so Valentine’s gets a bit overshadowed…
