I always, always regretted not having a sister. Having a brother is nice, but nothing like a sister. Now I have a son and two daughters. The daughters have become close, living in the same city. They are very different people but realize how precious their relationship is and nurture it.

I had a brother, and can’t say that we were as close as I would have liked. No sisters, not even close cousins. So having 2 girls 23 months apart is a challenge to my understanding of female relationships, and I’m half-dreading, half-anticipating the struggles to come.

My big girl pretty much hated my little girl for the first 14 months of her life. Little girl turns 17 months old tomorrow. Now that she runs around screaming big girl’s name, big girl is in love with her sister.

You’re right. Sisters are a wonderful thing. I look forward to watching my two little ones figure this out.

No daughters and four brothers — but also one blessed, glorious sister. She’s 10 yrs. younger than me, so we were none too close growing up (sharing a room with a six-yr-old when you’re 16 is not cool in anyone’s book). Now, though, I’m thankful for her everyday.

I love this post! I feel the same way–my sisters are the two people I can count on for anything. I love it when my girls play well together and hug and kiss each other and say “I love you.” It gives me hope that even as adults they’ll rely on each other.
