Christmas was odd this year. We were stuck in our house and yard from Christmas Eve until Sunday, just the kids and I. We had a good time, doing not much of anything and just enjoying being together, playing games, baking, listening to Christmas music and drinking hot apple cider.

We’ve also had a nasty cold that has been running its course through our house. Now that everyone has been struck, I decided to take the kids in to see the doctor today. This was largely due to the fact that both of Cody’s eyes took a turn for the worse yesterday, seeming to secrete everything that’s bottled up inside that head of his. Yuck. As his uncle phrased it when we ran into him while picking up our prescriptions this evening, “You look like the walking dead!”

Sure enough, they all have upper respiratory infections and Cody’s eyes are both infected, as are his ears. Poor things.

But we’re on the mend. Everyone got their first dose of antibiotics this evening and was bundled into bed at a more decent hour than the past nights during this Christmas vacation have been.

This is good news since our two Christmas celebrations, postponed due to weather, will be this weekend. Now I won’t have to worry about the kids giving my 4-month-old nephew, their pregnant aunt, immunity-compromised twin cousins or their cancer-battling grandmother something nasty.

Perhaps this blizzard was for the best after all.

How was your holiday? Was everyone healthy? Did you have any weather issues?
