The kids are all officially done with school now, as of today.
Here’s the rundown so far:
- Logan, who finished school on Friday, had his first day at the Boys & Girls Club today. While I was traumatized by the whole prospect of leaving him there alone, pretty much defenseless, he barely said “goodbye” to me as he skipped off for a tour with a 10-year-old. When I returned to pick him up later, he was pouring the remains of an Icee down his throat and onto his jacket and clutching a Fruit Roll-Up, both remnants of the “lunch” he chose to buy with the money I left him. On the way home to pick up the others, he curled up in his seat and promptly fell asleep, only to wake up when the vehicle stopped in an extremely hostile and rotten mood.
- The boys, overjoyed by the prospect of no school, reminded me the second I picked the other three up from school that I had said they could sleep together once school was out. It is now after 10:30 p.m. and they are still awake. In fact, they just came downstairs because, as per my instructions, they had an “emergency” involving blood. (Yes, I said they shouldn’t get out of bed unless they’re bleeding. It was no big deal, I assure you.)
- We’re trying to figure out our schedule based around the needs of the two bottle-fed lambs the girls are taking care of for their uncle.
- Rachel’s going to be volunteering at SPURS Therapeutic Riding Center one day a week, starting tomorrow. It’s a place for people with special-needs to learn how to ride horses and bond with them while doing it. She’s just about climbing the walls with excitement.
It’s sure to be an exciting and busy summer, full of lots of activities for all of us, plus the arrivals of two new cousins for my kids, one on each side of the family.
Have you started summer vacation yet? What are your family’s plans?
