You may remember my post from January asking readers to help me design a shirt with a gift certificate I received from Fibers.com. Because it was so much fun, I ended up with two. Check them out:

Since I am one of the most un-photogenic people on the planet, I decided against photographing myself in these adorable t-shirts.

Two comments on my experience with Fibers.com:

1. The shirts run VERY small. I normally wear a S or M shirt, but I ordered L because I like my t-shirts to be a little loose. They weren’t. First of all, I accidentally ordered one of them in a S, which barely even fits my relatively small 11-year-olds. The L was pretty much like a second skin. So just be aware when you order that you need to order at least two sizes bigger.

2. That said, Fibers.com has impeccable customer service and a 100% satisfaction guarantee. After several months of letting the shirts sit and gather dust, I wrote to my contact person there and explained the situation. He immediately had two XL shirts sent to me in the same designs I had ordered to begin with. Impressive!

OK, so thanks to Matt, the extremely nice owner of Fibers.com, I get to create my very own shirt and do a review and giveaway on my blog after I receive it. The problem is, I’ve collected so many cool/wise/humorous/insightful sayings over time (all to do with writing) that I can’t decide what to put on it.

This is where you come in. I need help with this oh-so-important decision, so I’m counting on you, my readers, to help me out with this by leaving a comment telling me which one(s) is/are your favorite(s).

Here we go. (This is in no particular order, by the way.)

1. Careful, or you’ll end up in my NOVEL.

2. I am an instrument of change — I write.

3. Deadlines amuse me.

4. The voices are getting louder. Must be time to write.

5. WRITER’S BLOCK: When your imaginary friends won’t talk to you.

6. bad grammar makes me [sic]

7. Obey the muse.

8. Books may well be the only true magic.

9. How To Write Good: Rule #4 — Avoid clichés like the plague.

10. Don’t read this shirt. It’s only a draft.

11. I write, therefore…I’m broke.

12. NOT NOW! I’m on deadline.

13. I prefer my own worlds to this one.

14. Eschew obfuscation.

15. Oh, this is SO going in my next novel.

16. Writers create immortality.

17. Instant writer: Just add coffee.

18. Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia.

OK, so what do you think?

For even more fun, I’ll send the person who leaves what I deem the most amusing comment a surprise gift. Woo hoo!

Thanks to Jennifer Fink over at Blogging ‘Bout Boys, who pointed me in the right direction, I was able to download this adorable template from Template~Mama. It’s called “Summery Scraps” and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. She has a bunch of incredibly cute, FREE templates available for download.

There was a bit of a difficulty, however — WordPress.com doesn’t allow the use of templates other than the handful they offer. Template~Mama‘s templates are all specifically designed for Blogger, so short of transferring my entire blog over there, which would cause a number of difficulties, I decided to play around with it anyway.

WordPress.com has an option where you can mess around with your blog’s CSS and preview it to see how it looks. I pasted in the code from “Summery Scraps” and though it wouldn’t stand up on its own in this program, it combined fairly well with my original theme, MistyLook. So after messing around with it a bit, I coughed up the $14.97/year it costs to be able to change your own CSS and here I am, and quite happy with the result.

If you’re thinking about starting a blog, I’d recommend Blogger if you want flexibility (or just adorable, free themes). WordPress.com is quite limited in many ways, though it’s very intuitive and easy to use. In a way, I’m glad I started with it because it got me used to the whole concept of blogging, but now that I want to take my blog to the next level, WP.com is just too restrictive.

So, the next step is to transfer my blog over to WordPress.org, which is a whole ‘nother ball of wax (and a bit scary). If you’re curious about the differences, read this article, “WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org.”

If you get my posts via email, come on over to my blog site and check it out.
